Capstone in 150 words or less...

Here's a summary of my capstone project for next week's fair.  I may have written a bit more about the specific challenges facing some Vermont residents, but it's important to give the reader an idea of why this work is important.  Here it is, in 149 words:

"Vermont’s population is steadily changing in its racial and cultural complexion.  Like all America, our population is becoming multicultural, multiethnic and multilingual.

Still, there are some who resist this change.  They feel threatened and respond by excluding those who are different.  Negative racial and cultural stereotypes divide communities and diminish opportunities for all.

The Vermont Partnership for Fairness and Diversity (formerly known as ALANA) is a statewide education and advocacy resource, devoted to making communities fair and welcoming. It provides guidance to help our communities overcome discrimination based on prejudice and ignorance.

This Brattleboro-based organization seeks a broader statewide audience.  To that end, this Capstone project will create a refreshed website, social media engagement, outbound e-mail marketing initiatives to key constituent groups and integration of a new brand identity.

This capstone project incorporated best practices gleaned from Human Computer Interaction, Web 2.0, Change Management, Project Management, Marketing and Web Standards."
