Sponsor Meeting Results – 5/21

I met yesterday with Curtiss Reed who introduced me to Jimmy Karlan, who is the director of the Science Teacher Certification Program at Antioch University New England. Interesting guy.

Jimmy is a member of the VPFD board of directors and will lend his perspective to the development of an improved website for the Vermont Partnership for Fairness & Diversity.

What was especially gratifying was his initiative as evidenced by a six-page memorandum detailing his thoughts on how to best overhaul the site. It makes for interesting reading and affirms my thinking that the best way to illustrate the mission of the Vermont Partnership is through actual stories of individuals who have been impacted by its work.

I learned that Jimmy and Curtiss will comprise a committee that will guide the site development process. Honestly, that’s great news as last year’s re-branding process – while much more far-reaching – was subject to review and approval by an extensive committee. Review and approval by two individuals will no doubt streamline the approval process.

So what now? I need a work breakdown structure for site development and proposed the following:

Site prep – Collecting whatever is needed for the site now and hold for access when needed. Due date: 5/28

Discovery — Collaborating internally to define the most important aspects of the site. Due date: 6/4

Design & Structure — Develop the creative brief. Work with the web team to design the actual look of the site. Due date: 7/16

Copywriting & Optimization — Managing content development and optimization for all website pages. Due date: 6/18

Build Out — Populating the site with all content and testing to ensure everything displays and works properly in browser windows. Due date: 7/30

Site Launch — Launching the new website and ensuring it is indexed properly by Google and other search engines. Due date: 8/6

It’s not perfect, but it provides targets that I can use to gauge progress. The same needs to be developed for SEO, Social media and email marketing components.

  1. Peter,

I was more pre-occupied than expected with final packing/move tasks, but am now in Keene FT and can/will respond immediately to posts/questions/etc.

GREAT news that you don't have to deal with a full committee to move forward with the site!

Suggestion: Would you consider posting your WBS, component map, other deliverables, etc. on a separate page on your blog? That way I can easily keep track of where you are/when you make changes etc... Just a suggestion...
